Transcending Victimhood
“Just sit there right now,
Don’t do a thing, just rest.
For your separation from God,
Is the hardest work in this world.”
- Hafiz of Shiraz
Transcending Victimhood
Born poor or rich,
Near or far,
Knowing or unknowing,
Quite a high bar.
-
Black or white,
South Asian or North,
Peace or strife,
It’s all one life.
-
Abused by relatives,
Bullied at school,
Or given it all,
Silver platter before the fall.
-
Work ethic or study skills,
Or how not to be killed,
Hands we are dealt,
Hard to know God’s will.
-
Democrat or Republican,
Israelite or Palestinian,
The gulf that divides,
Insurmountable it seems.
-
Hard to see,
When one feels deep down,
The need to cry or just frown,
Pain & revenge everywhere to be found.
-
Easy to believe,
It’s everyone else,
Surely it can’t be,
Manifested by self.
-
A karmic journey,
We all are on,
Life’s great mystery,
Those missing verses of our song.
-
But alas the choices,
Each of us have,
To blame one another,
Or Heaven’s above.
-
It doesn’t matter, Islamic or Jew
Christian or Hindu,
Rational modernity and atheist not a few,
While the Buddhist just chill.
-
It matter’s not, what creed or color,
Or anthem they play,
Human Beings we are ,
No matter what you say.
-
A change in perspective,
Stepping back from self,
The things done to you,
Don’t define you one bit.
-
Perhaps your need,
Was to walk this path,
And learn what may,
While keeping demons at bay.
-
Once seen,
Never the same,
You and I are God,
Manifest in the flesh.
-
Instead of just asking,
Jesus, Buddha, or Krishna ,
The Bible, Torah or the Quran,
Just look inside, where each of them reside.
-
Lay down your weapons,
Rise up from the ashes,
Set down that cross,
For your own resurrection is there for the taking.
-
Align with your Soul,
Bow to no other,
And speak to one another,
As they are God.
-
Natural law,
Harsh as it seems,
Is really quite just,
Once you understand what it means.
-
Live each moment,
As God is watching,
Never an unkind thought,
Compassion for all living.
-
Forgiveness transmutes pain,
Know strength as you gain,
Free will remains,
Transcending victimhood,
The point of the game.
