The Ends & The Means
"The means may be likened to a seed, the end to a tree; and there is just the same inviolable connection between the means and the end as there is between the seed and the tree." - Mahatma Gandhi
The Ends & The Means
Self, what shall I do?
Worthy goal,
Laudable objective,
Important, Urgent.
-
Need so clear,
Objective so near,
But for this or that,
Nothing to fear.
-
Falling short,
Need is great,
Taking the bate,
Shortcut to make.
-
Who will know?
Who will care?
If the deed is done,
We will have won.
-
But alas one knows,
Deep down inside,
No matter the quest,
Even if best.
-
The means that stray,
From God’s way,
Taint the victory,
Tarnish a Saint.
-
Even it seems,
Everyone’s on board,
Going along,
Selling your song.
-
One with all,
Some ends may fall,
If we recall,
It’s nothing small.
-
Consequences unseen,
Today or tomorrow.
Doesn’t prevent,
True sorrow.
-
Take a moment,
Be here now,
Return to me,
Do not follow.
