Oh Humanity, I Love Thee
“He who perceives all beings in the soul and the soul in all beings does not shrink away from anything.” - Isha Upanishad
Oh Humanity, I Love Thee
Throngs of people,
Gathering about,
Going this way and that,
Hurry up, gonna be late.
-
Speeding cars,
Milk trucks,
Honk honk,
Tuk Tuks weaving about.
-
Welcoming G20,
Shining structures, Tech giants aplenty,
Consumerism alive,
We all must strive.
-
New expressways,
Delhi to Mumbai,
Now so near.
We’re building a nation, my dear.
-
Ancient wonders all around,
Empires no longer found,
Places of worship,
Askshardham and Lotus, ISKCON and Jama,
The Taj Mahal, its unique sound.
-
Beneath majestic Jama Masjid,
Shanties abound, street markets bustle,
A woman with child, avoiding a car,
A man struggles with cane.
-
Amid knock off Nikes,
Pashminas and street food,
Squalor and filth,
Sadness in a young girl’s eyes.
-
The World we live,
Globalization and ox pulled cart,
Unhealthy dense air,
Sadness and beauty so much to bear.
-
The suffering is real,
Unconscious people,
Leading the charge,
Consequences at large.
-
With Mohammad’s children,
Praying to Allah,
Paying tribute to Krishna, and The Buddha,
Asking Lord Jesus.
-
What more can we do?
Protecting the Earth,
Alleviating pain,
Oh humanity, I love thee.
